Oberammergau Passion Play 2010
As the legend goes, in 1632 when a resident of Oberammergua, Germany fell victim to the Black Plague, the residents banded together and in the town church and made a vow to God. The people of this small village in the foothills of the Alps vowed that they would preform a "Passion Play," a dramatic portrayal of Christ's death, every decade "until the end of time."
According to old chronicles, the people of Oberammergau were spared and no other residents perished to the Plague. The first Passion Play was preformed in 1634 and the tradition has continued ever since, with a performance every 10 years.
